SUMMARY:Barbican and Golden Lane Neighbourhood Forum - drop in
DESCRIPTION:The Barbican and Golden Lane community has applied to beco
me a designated neighbourhood forum so that it can prepare a neighbour
hood plan and participate in local planning matters on a statutory bas
is. Under the government’s Localism legislation, communities can dra
w up their own plans that become part of the statutory framework for l
and use. This will be the City of London’s first neighbourhood forum
and neighbourhood plan.\r\nThe application is supported by local resi
dents, councillors, businesses and community groups such as GLERA and
the BA. As the process develops we hope support and membership will gr
ow.\r\nTim Godsmark, Chair of GLERA says “As Chair of GLERA I fully
support the Barbican and Golden Lane Neighbourhood Forum which takes r
esident involvement in planning policy a step forward following on fro
m the resident proposed conservation area.”\r\nAlderwoman Sue Pearso
n: “I’m a great supporter of neighbourhood plans and the Barbican
and Golden Lane Forum will give residents the ability to shape the de
velopment of the area.”\r\n\r\nKey Points \r\n1. This is about plann
ing. The Forum is supported by the BA and GLERA as well as other local
resident associations, as it strengthens local influence by;\r\n• C
reating a Neighbourhood Plan (in line with the City’s Local Plan)\r\
n• Commenting on planning applications\r\n• Influencing CIL spendi
ng – the c£9m annual levy on planning applications\r\n2. The Neighb
ourhood excludes areas in Islington as it would be too complex and cos
tly to co-ordinate two boroughs at this stage.\r\n3. The Forum needs y
our support – the consultation to bring it in runs to midnight on We
dnesday 21st June, 2023\r\n\r\nConsultation\r\nThe City of London has
started a statutory consultation about the Neighbourhood Forum. The co
nsultation deadline is Wednesday 21st June at midnight\r\nhttps://city
 neighbourhoodplans.commonplace.is/\r\n\r\nPlease:\r\n• Support the a
ims of the Forum \r\n• Support the Area defined by the Forum \r\n•
Reject extending the Area into Islington \r\n\r\nCome and find out mo
re during the consultation open drop-in session for residents, workers
, businesses and community groups. More info on Forum website\n\nFor m
