Golden Lane Estate, London or Golden Lane, City of London, London - Your Views Valued

Hi,

We all like living on Golden Lane, and the City of London, however the address can at times be confusing.

Which of the following versions would you prefer to use as your address format:

A

123 Any House

Golden Lane Estate

London

EC1Y 0AH

B

123 Any House

Golden Lane Estate

City of London

London

EC1Y 0AH

C

123 Any House

Golden Lane

City of London

London

EC1Y 0AH

D

123 Any House

Golden Lane

London

EC1Y 0AH

E

123 Any House

Golden Lane Estate

Barbican

London

EC1Y 0AH

F

123 Any House

Golden Lane

Barbican

London

EC1Y 0AH

G

123 Any House

Golden Lane

Barbican

City of London

London

EC1Y 0AH

Personally I would prefer version B, or a version with City of London, to allow a more defined location of our locality.

With version B, any negative perceptions that may be associated with housing estates and deprivation in some housing estates will be significantly diminished. It can present a more positive image.

It clearly states that the address is located in the City of London, rather than any area of London.

Some roads close to Golden Lane, fall within Islington, however they share the same initial postcode EC1, adding City of London to Golden Lane can define our locality more precisely.

It adds prestige to the address and location.

It adds value to a social and business use of the address. Some residents run businesses from their address.

It could help to increase the value of homes.

It could help in the renting of property.

Golden Lane derives its name from the historic gold trading that once existed along Golden Lane, which later migrated towards Hatton Garden.

At Golden Lane we have different buildings located off different access points to the residential areas. The buildings themselves have their own identities, although designed by the same architects.

Estate agents tend to refer to Golden Lane as being within the wider Barbican area.

The tube station takes its name from the Barbican.

The Barbican, has been referred to as the Barbican Estate. Over time this has changed to just Barbican, and the Royal Mail database refers to it as 123 Any Tower, Barbican, (not Barbican Estate), London EC2Y 8AT. The addresses in the Barbican area are more defined to the locality.

If there is a positive response for change, any version, then this would be made known to the Golden Lane Office and:

Ms Hannah Brooks
Land and Property Gazetteer Custodian
Monitoring and Information Team
Department of the Built Environment
City of London Corporation
020 7332 3486
www.cityoflondon.gov.uk

Information relating to Street Naming and Numbering is available via the following link:

 http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/services/environment-and-planning/planning/planning-applications/submitting-planning-applications/Pages/Naming-and-numbering-of-streets-and-buildings.aspx

Ms Brooks would then make our views known to the department head, who will then consult, before requesting any change with the Royal Mail, who would then update their database, which in turn would then have a knock-on effect with virtually all users of the Royal Mail database, including electoral roll, finance companies, etc., literally any one who relies on the Royal Mail database would be provided with the new address format, and any researches carrying out any research would be informed from the address that the buildings are located within the City of London.

There is no cost associated to residents, except updating of stationary.

This is a research exercise, the findings will in no way become enforceable, but will give all of us at Golden Lane an empowerment voice, that the Corporation will have to take into account, they have verbally stated that "they take the views of residents into account".

It would be great to have a majority replying, there are many residents who are not at present on this forum, therefor please kindly ask the views of your neighbours too, the more replies the better.

The research exercise will remain open until Friday 27th January 2017, after which the results will be posted on this site.

Thanks & best regards always

Hussain

Thanks for your reply Political Mother.

Hi Bijou, Thanks for your reply.

As the postcodes in the City have a digit after the first two letters, followed by another letter, EC1Y, it can be confusing for those taking the details, I have had the same issue.

Thanks for your reply Rick.

Virtually all delivery drivers get confused with Golden Lane Estate, I have had missed deliveries where they could not locate the building due to poor signage, two Uber drivers unable to locate, and food deliveries getting cold...

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the information, glad that your rating is back to excellent.

I believe that the Corporation of London is now providing information on residents to credit reference agencies.

Credit agencies need to ensure address variations of addresses are included in their IT systems.
