City of London Police is appealing for help in identifying two men caught on CCTV at the scene of a robbery on Fetter Lane on Saturday afternoon (14 August).

Around 3.15pm, two men on a cream coloured Vespa scooter approached a security worker who was transferring a cash box between the store and his armoured vehicle, which was parked on the junction of Fetter Lane and High Holborn.

The scooter passenger got off the Vespa before threatening the security worker. The scooter passenger then picked up the box before getting back onto the scooter and heading west along High Holborn.

The cash box was fitted with a device that tracked it to Pitfield Street in the Golden Lane area, before it was later found unopened, in a rubbish bin at Shire House in Lambs Passage EC1. The box had been placed in a laundry bag.

The men are described as:
• Male 1: The driver, aged about 18-25 years, wearing a black ‘Roof’ motorcycle helmet, blue jogging bottoms and a mid-blue ‘Franklin & Marshall’ hooded top.
• Male 2: The passenger, aged about 18-25 years, wearing a white and blue ‘HJC’ motorcycle helmet, grey jogging bottoms and a black North Face jacket.

The cream coloured Vespa scooter had the stolen registration plate FX07 NZZ.

Det Sgt Matt Schneider of City of London Police, said: “This incident was very traumatic for the security worker involved and it’s important we catch these thieves before they think about a second robbery.

“We have CCTV images of the suspects and the scooter they rode. Anyone who recognises them or saw them dumping the cash box in Lambs Passage should contact us immediately.” These can be viewed on the City of London Police website.
