Has anyone other than me ever thought it would be nice it the estate was de-cluttered of all the unecessary signs that are stuck up round the place?

The City Police are among the worst culprits with several elderly Neighbourhood Watch signs that are so shabby, rusty and out of date they give the message to burglars that we might be a rather easy target.

There are no fewer than 13 signs at the corner of Fann St and Golden Lane - most also unnecessary not least because about half duplicate each other...........

Its a shame, given that the original cast aluminium signage on the Estate was bespoke and is still very elegant. But on a more positive note have you seen Michael Bojkowski's A Typographic Survey of the City of London in which our cast signs feature? All you design buffs had better click over to

and learn how to tell your Albertus from your Caslon (Caslon, indcidentally, lived in Chiswell Street).

Loved the video.
Thanks for the kind words about the video. I've been thinking about re-doing it recently, fixing the ranty bit at the end. :)

I obviously totally agree with Roland and the issue of signage. It always makes me laugh when I pass that 'Please be Considerate' sign at the corner of Fann St and Golden Lane. It's the most obtrusive, out-of-place and ill considered sign they could have found. It may be promoting consideration but it looks like the complete opposite.
Don't loose the ranty bit Michael, it's great. Super video.

There is still too much ugly ineffectual signage up on the estate - high time for a good tidy up.
Quite agree. How about doing a walkabout and listing whatever signs might be considered unecessary or shabby and bring it to the attention of the Residents Committee (of which I'm a member) to see what further action can be taken.
Watch this video, it is excellent. It would be good to add a bit on some of the oddities on this estate.
There is a whole new project to be done looking at typefaces in Smithfield Market and along Fleet Street. The Port of London Authority Building near to Fabric has a sign created entirely in blue mosaic for example.
Here are some strange examples.
I have added a few pictures to start the ball rolling.

I think it has got worse since you made your video as several signs have got new signs fixed on top of them. (I'm not sure how to rotate the picture).
