Barbican and Golden Lane Neighbourhood Forum - drop in at Community Centre

June 8, 2023 from 5pm to 6:30pm
The Barbican and Golden Lane community has applied to become a designated neighbourhood forum so that it can prepare a neighbourhood plan and participate in local planning matters on a statutory basis. Under the government’s Localism legislation, communities can draw up their own plans that become part of the statutory framework for land use. This will be the City of London’s first neighbourhood forum and neighbourhood plan. The application is supported by local residents, councillors, businesses and community groups such as GLERA and the BA. As the process develops we hope support and membership will grow.Tim Godsmark, Chair of GLERA says “As Chair of GLERA I fully support the Barbican and Golden Lane Neighbourhood Forum which takes resident involvement in planning policy a step forward following on from the resident proposed conservation area.”Alderwoman Sue Pearson: “I’m a great supporter of…See More

Event Description

Many Golden lane residents help to look after a neighbour, spouse, family member or friend who needs your support. The person may have eg a short-term or long-term health condition, disability, frailty, substance misuse or a mental health condition.

Did you know items such as picking up shopping, being a listening ear, picking up prescriptions, taking a person to appointments, helping with meals/ paperwork etc all come under the banner of being a "carer". In 2014 the government passed the Care Act, in which you have certain rights that local councils, businesses and our City Corporation needs to meet.

Most residents think of a carer as a paid carer worker in a blue uniform. Without realising, the term carer is for those who are caregiving not paid to do so.

CoL has a contract with City Connections (since 2019) to meet the needs of City residents/City workers who also have a caring responsibility.

Here at City Carers Community, a resident group, we started in April 2020 to highlight the needs of caregivers/unpaid carers in the City of London to ask if the needs are being met with adequate support. Similar to if we lived a mile away in our neighbouring boroughs.

24th November is National Carers Rights Day. https://www.carersuk.org/news-and-campa ... rights-day

The following events have been compiled by City Connections. I noticed they weren't in the recent the Golden estate newsletter, therefore I am sharing it here. We, City Carers Community, will also be hosting two Zooms Thursday 24th & Sunday 27th at 7.30 pm Open to all to join.
