Save Bernard Morgan House

City of London

I was having a usual early evening walk around the Estate and discovered the gates unlocked, leading into Basterfield House lawn.  In all the many years I have lived here, I have never walked onto this lawn before, unless it has been open to 'events'.  I took the opportunity to have a walk round, and thoroughly enjoyed the 'peace' of the lawn.  May I respectfully ask why this lawn is normally locked up, so residents cannot gain access to it, unless they live in the bottom row of Basterfield House?  I ask because none of the other blocks have locked gates, leading to their lawns.  Also, as a resident, who has to endure non residents taking over the Hatfield House lawn during lunch breaks, and sometimes leaving litter around, despite the signs, not to mention some verbal abuse when this is pointed out, I wondered if there was a special reason over this.  Unless I am wrong, I thought we all paid the same service charges.  Obviously, I would never want non residents to have access to Basterfield House lawn, but then neither should they be allowed free access to Hatfield House lawn, or any other lawns on the Estate, when we all pay the same charges.  If anyone could explain the situation, I would be very grateful.  Basically, I feel that, although Golden Lane Estate has 'right of way', the residents should have priority, because this is classed as a 'private estate'.

Am pleasantly surprised to find that so far, we can gain access to this lovely lawn.  Have no idea how long that has been like this, as recall Wendy Giallagia always making sure, when she was here, that the gates should be locked.  So, maybe I have been mistaken in thinking this policy had continued.  My thanks to the residents of Basterfield House, for their lovely plant displays too!
