Barbican and Golden Lane Neighbourhood Forum - drop in at Community Centre

June 8, 2023 from 5pm to 6:30pm
The Barbican and Golden Lane community has applied to become a designated neighbourhood forum so that it can prepare a neighbourhood plan and participate in local planning matters on a statutory basis. Under the government’s Localism legislation, communities can draw up their own plans that become part of the statutory framework for land use. This will be the City of London’s first neighbourhood forum and neighbourhood plan. The application is supported by local residents, councillors, businesses and community groups such as GLERA and the BA. As the process develops we hope support and membership will grow.Tim Godsmark, Chair of GLERA says “As Chair of GLERA I fully support the Barbican and Golden Lane Neighbourhood Forum which takes resident involvement in planning policy a step forward following on from the resident proposed conservation area.”Alderwoman Sue Pearson: “I’m a great supporter of…See More

Get involved: be part of a user-led evaluation and help create better Mental Health services in City and Hackney

Mental Health Voice is collecting people’s experiences of discharge from hospital, for an evaluation.

The evaluation is being carried out by a team of local people who have experienced mental illness. The team will feedback findings and recommendations to local service providers to influence and shape local services.

  • Have you experienced mental illness?
  • Have you been discharged from hospital?
  • Do you live in the City?
  • Would you be happy to share your experience?

If you would like to be involved or have questions, contact: Bonnie Studd on 07934298720/ bonnie@advocacyproject.org.uk.

I would be very happy to share with you my experiences of mental illness, where I have been hospitalised, and I live in the City.  The important issue is that much of such suffering could have been avoided if some Council officers had proper training and understanding of how to deal with those residents who suffer from this terrible condition, and make 'reasonable adjustments' when dealing with them,.

I will contact you in due course.  Thank you for your post.

Hi Maria

Thank you for your response, it's really good to hear that you would be happy to share your experience with the Mental Health Voice team. Please can you contact me on  07934298720/ bonnie@advocacyproject.org.uk so that we can arrange a time for you to meet with two members of the team. We will also be circulating an online questionnaire within the next week if you would prefer to share your experience that way.

Kind regards,

Bonnie

Thank you Bonnie

I will certainly be contacting you very soon.  I want to avoid anyone else suffering in the way I have been subjected to, and have mental health recognised as being very serious, instead of being told you simply have 'issues', by those who are not medically trained, or have experience in knowing how to respond to people who are ill.

Hello Bonnie.  Have sent you my contact details so we can meet and discuss my illness, and hopefully find a way forward so no other person has to suffer the ignorance and lack of compassion, and failure to make 'reasonable adjustments', which is illegal, that I have had to endure from some City of London officers.
